The End

Did you enjoy ‘Death Angel’ by Linda Howard? We loved the first half of this book. It was everything we wanted with intrigue and danger. We loved our dangerous assassin and found Andrea interesting and unique. But after 60% of it we felt ourselves going ehhhhhhh. Below you will find some of our ruminations on the text.  If you haven’t read the book yet don’t read further. May contain SPOILERS both here and in future comments.

*****

We think that this book had SO MUCH PROMISE. Loved the first half of the book and really enjoyed that we got the POV of not only Andrea and the Assassin, but also Rafael. That was very interesting. We were on board all the way to the accident. The book was engaging and moving at a good pace. It was interesting that the assassin found Andrea a challenge and commended her intellect but at the same time. Overall this book gets a 3 because were fifty fifty on it. We liked half of the book.

The writing- for the first 60% of the book Linda’s writing kept us engaged and interested. We also like the way The Assassin was portrayed, as the bad ass he should be. No one even knows what his real name is. [ And we did not miss the joke that his name is Simon, and when he calls his tech guy he says hes Simon, like Simon says….get it?] That even a major player in the drug world was afraid of him, and he was so good that he was willing to do anything to retain his services. And Andrea played him like a PRO!

But to be honest it didn’t make sense to us for Rafael to suddenly be in love with Andrea. Both he and Andrea knew exactly what the relationship was. It was sex based for Rafael and materialistic goods for Andrea. Now to the second half of the book. We found that after Andrea’s second chance that the writing began to dull, and that  while reading we could skip or skim paragraphs. The assassin in the second half of the book was still great. We like his attention to Andrea and the way that he ‘stalked’ her, and wanted to put flowers on her grave.

But there was no explanation for her ability to ‘see the future/predict things’ and there was no to little mention of her child prior to her accident. And the tone of the second half of the book was totally different to the first, and we understand that was intended to see Andrea’s change, but it also threw us readers for a loop. The second half of the book could have been a little better. It was just lacking and unfortunately we cant pinpoint what we wished would have been there instead and only comment on what we didn’t like.
